Margaret Cartner

Academic Reinforcement

Margaret grew up in Birmingham, Alabama where she spent most of her weekends hiking, camping, and canoeing with her family all over the Southeast. She graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelors of Arts in both International Studies and Spanish. While at Ole Miss she studied abroad in South America where she backpacked from the deserts in northern Chile and Bolivia through Patagonia in southern Chile and Argentina. Margaret has led high school students on outdoor adventures in the iconic mountains of South America, Europe, and North Africa. She has also spent time in the beautiful Rocky Mountains as a certified ski instructor. After graduation, she spent a year as an AmeriCorps member in her hometown where she mentored Birmingham City High School students in financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership. She loves to play outside and hopes to show students how much inspiration is waiting for them all over the world. She is excited to be joining the Alzar community as the Academic Reinforcement Teaching Fellow, supporting our students to perform their best while here! You can reach Margaret at
