Challenge For Leaders – Tees Toward Tuition
Each year staff and alumni give back to Alzar School through our social fundraising platform called Challenge For Leaders. Alzar School first launched these peer-driven initiatives in 2015 when Head of School, Sean Bierle, challenged himself to paddle over 60 miles of the North Fork Payette drainage in under 24 hours in an effort to raise $100,000 for student scholarships. Inspired by his initial challenge, we’ve seen both staff and alumni adapt Sean’s model and craft personalized fundraisers that fit their interests and passions all while benefiting Alzar School.
This summer, alumna, Lauren, has launched a different type of Challenge for Leaders. Using her design skills, she has crafted two Alzar School t-shirts. Through her “Tees Toward Tuition” fundraiser, Lauren is selling her custom tees in order to raise funds for Alzar School scholarships. Beyond her talented design work, Lauren’s motivation behind wanting to give back is truly inspiring. Here’s what Lauren has to say:
The lessons I learned, the experiences I had, and the community I found at Alzar School allowed me to grow into the person I am today. At Alzar School, I learned to push myself outside of my comfort zone, a lesson that has allowed me to pursue experiences that have shaped my life and future. The values I learned in leadership, friendship, and community through outdoor adventure, traveling abroad, and living away from home encouraged me to become the head coach of a swim team of over 150 kids, tackle community projects including research at the Medical University of South Carolina, and find a new home at the University of Virginia.
I want others to have these unique experiences, find these strong communities, and learn these valuable lessons that will truly shape the rest of their lives. By purchasing a t-shirt, you are contributing to a scholarship fund with the goal of expanding the diversity of this opportunity and investing in a student’s future that otherwise would not be able to attend Alzar School. Please help me in my mission to give a student the ability to have this once in a lifetime experience that will truly impact the rest of their life.
