Chemistry Skills

Alzar School | 05.09.13

New equipment is being used in Chemistry class this year. The school procured a new glassware set, chemicals and equipment. The students can now practice lab skills with equipment similar to their sending schools.

At the beginning of the semester, most chemistry topics are review, and skills are practiced to reinforce those common catch all topics. The class has specifically studied matter, and matter properties like density and phase change.

In our most recent lab, students observed and measured phase change of dihydrogen monoxide (AKA H2O). The experiment requires students to measure and graph the temperature change of water as it changes from ice to water vapor. Students also observe and note how convection currents move in beaker.

Students need to be very comfortable with the physical properties of matter as they can influence the chemical properties of matter, which we will witness and study for the duration of the semester.
